Reports emanating from Darjeeling say that the people of the Lok Ssbha constituency and elsewhere in the 'Gorkhaland' locality are upset with the ruling BJP at the Centre for going back on its word on (allowing a) 'Gorkhaland'.

BJP's Ahluwalia won the 2014 Lok Sabha polls from Darjeeling after assuring its electorate that the BJP would be 'sympathetic' to demand for a separate 'Gorkhaland' if it came to power at the Centre.  As it turned out, BJP rode to success on 'Modi wave' and won a simple majority on its own to form the Govt. at the Centre, replacing the decade-long Congress-led UPA regime.

Despite winning 43% of the votes polled, the BJP didn't care to implement the promise it gave to Darjeeling's voters.  Observers point out that when protests erupted in Darjeeling recently demanding a separate 'Gorkhaland', the ruling Trinamool Congress Govt. in West Bengal headed by Mamata Banerjee used violence to quell the riots and bring the situation under control; the BJP chose not to react.

Gorkhaland supporters are obviously disappointed with the BJP's tactics and say that while Mamata was 'murdering' them, the BJP was betraying them by stabbing them in the back.
