Music Director: Salim Sulaiman

National Award Winner Madhur Bhandarkar is in news for all the known reasons. Marred by controversies right from the time of its announcement. As we all know Madhur initially wanted Kareena to play the lead but when she refused and demanded changes he went to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who went on to sign the film and shot with him almost for a month.

However the actress quit the project due to her pregnancy. Madhur had no choice but to finally look for another heroine and who better than his first choice than Kareena Kapoor could fit the role. The subject of the film deals with the journey of a girl who goes on to become a glamorous starlet and her downfall.

The music is an eclectic mix of five songs which reflect the various moods of the protagonist's life composed by Salim-Sulaiman and penned by Niranjan Iyengar. They had worked earlier with Bhandarkar in Fashion. However the music was not much spoken about. But this time Salim Sulaiman are definitely expecting a few chartbusters. Let's see how far they have reached.

Halkat Jawani

Singer: Sunidhi Chauhan

Lyrics : Niranjan Iyengar

The album kick starts with Halkat jawani a typical item number packed in with a lot of guitar riff raffs and is pepper with a lot of dhol beats and harmonium giving it a typical desi nautanki flavor. A very bubbly song aptly suited for the husky tones of Sunidhi Chauhan and the picturisation on Kareena creates the mood of a typical dance number for a glamorous heroine. The dholak beats and the naughty movements, of the well choreographed song add to the rauchy number. Lyrics by Niranjan Iyengar are simple and hummable. This one is a definite chartbuster and will replace the munni and Sheila ki jawani numbers soon.

Main Heroine Hoon

Singer: Aditi Singh Sharma

Lyrics: Sanjay Chhel

The raunchy song is soon followed by Main heroine hoon sung by Aditi Singh Sharma. The song takes us through the journey of a heroine's success in the glamorous world. Here again the song begins with the strums of the guitar followed by heavy based dub step and the drums. The song goes on a high pitch and

is suddenly laced with sitar and electronic sounds. Aditi Sharma has conveyed the right sentiments of a heroine's success in the song. Lyrics by Sanjay Chhel lyrics narrate and traverse through journey of the heroine's success in the film industry.

 Saaiyaan

Singer: Rahat Fateh Ali Khan

Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya

Next up is Saaiyaan, a soft melody by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. Violin is used intermittently to create the sad mood of the song. It reminds you of the popular track from Dor but fail to create the same impact. However unlike Rahat's other hit numbers the song is not as heart wrenching as per the mood of the film. Amitabh Bhattacharya's lyrics are good but Salim Sulaiman are a big let down with this number. The song had lot of potential to be a better number. Salim Sulaiman could have taken the song to another level with a singer like Rahat in their hand.

Khwahashein

Singer: Shreya Ghosal

Lyrics: Irfan Siddique

The lilting notes of the piano followed by the soft tones of the guitar opens the song Khwahashein. Shreya ghoshal's husky voice takes over softly going in an upward swing followed by the heavy drum beats and electronic sounds. Shreya is simply at ease with this soft rock ballad song and is a winner all the way as she goes high and low making way for the guitar riffs in between. The lyrics written by Irfan Siddique convey the apt message of the heroine's emotions. A heart rendering number this song conveys the message of the film to the audiences.

Tujhpe Fida

Singer: Benny Dayal & Shradha Pandit

Lyrics: Neelesh Mishra

The album ends with a fun dance number Tujhpe fida, crooned by Benny Dayal and Shraddha Pandit. A lot of electronic loops and techno sounds. Lyrics by Neelesh Mishra are layered with fun elements. It is definitely going to hit the dance floors this year amongst the youth. But it remains to be seen how Madhur has used the track in the film. All said and done this one is a sure shot winner all the way.

Overall: Despite having five tracks in the album it looks like Salim Sulaiman have not concentrated on all the tracks seriously. Except for Halkat Jawani and Tujhpe Fida all the other numbers sound dull and have that heard before syndrome feeling. However, Halkat Jawani has already scored it's brownie points as the most popular track.
