Hinging hopes on David Billa and Sakuni

Veedinthe starred Vikram. Snehithudu had the name of Shankar going for it. Malligadu had a brilliant performance by Priyamani. Eka Veera was a neatly-executed period drama. 3 was more than Kolaveri Di. Premalo Padithe was a heart-touching human drama that was released by the very successful Suresh Kondeti. Yet the audience never cared to watch them. (Not many have heard about these films). Jiiva had a release by name Rowdram, which elicited the 'rowdram' of the minuscule section which watched it rather mistakenly.

The writing on the wall is quite explicit. Just because they watched Rangam and Journey, it does not mean that Telugu audience will watch any and every dubbed movie.

In this context, David Billa and Sakuni yet stand good chances for becoming popular. It is because of their genres. A prequel is a rarity in India, much less Tollywood. David Billa, starring Ajith, and directed by Chakri Toleti, is a slick, stylish and costly action thriller.

Sakuni is a God-send for Karthi, who is a familiar face in this State. The film is being released by Bellamkonda Suresh in 400 theatres on June 22. The film has a love story and an undercurrent of politics. Since the Tamil filmmakers have a rare knack for making unique satires, Sakuni might just spring a surprise in AP, like Oke Okkadu.
