The intense actress Vidya Balan is back heading the cast as Begum Jaan' a brothel head who refuses to give up her mansion to build the India-Pakistan border during partition . The film marks the Bollywood debut of acclaimed Bengali filmmaker Srijit Mukherji under the Mahesh Bhatt/Mukesh Bhatt banner Vishesh Films.
