Over the years, audiences looking back will remember a few heroines who took their breath-away, everything from the way they looked to the way they went about their mundane chores on-screen to the way they danced - their smiles lighting up the screen.

Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, known for his larger-than-life films, exemplary sets, high-tempo emotions and most of all for the way he presents his film’s leading ladies promises audiences this time around, Deepika Padukone aka Leela, in her most beautiful yet.

When it came to Deepika’s look in ‘Ram-Leela’, keeping with his vision of Leela, Bhansali wanted to keep it as natural and real as possible with minimalist make-up by Mehera Kolah and an undone light bouffant, giving her the look of a local Gujarati girl.

SLB, who is known to go all out on minute detailing, aimed at extracting the best of Gujarat in Deepika's costumes and personally travelled to the interiors of Gujarat on the outskirts of Bhuj to purchase the material that went into Deepika’s clothing designed by Anju Modi. If that wasn't all, the materials used as part of her wardrobe for the film date to over a 100 years old in spite of it being a contemporary film based in real time, since the maverick director needed it to be as traditional and real as possible.

Talking about his film's Leela said Bhansali, "Leela is like my mother - beautiful, graceful but teekhi! She is colour... She is fire... I wanted Deepika to be that."

Said designer Anju Modi, "It's a different experience altogether working with Bhansali. He does not believe in restricting creativity and that makes it a dream for any designer. What made things even better was that Bhansali and I were on the same page aesthetically and that gave rise to beautiful costumes."

While Deepika remarked, "Sanjay sir is known for the way he presents his heroines. Other than getting to working with one of the country's most celebrated directors, I was really excited about my look in the film. Leela came alive thanks to Sanjay Bhansali’s vision and attention to detail combined with Anju Modi's creative brilliance."

Be it Manisha Koirala in ‘Khamoshi’, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ and ‘Guzaarish’, Madhuri Dixit Nene and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in ‘Devdas’ or Sonam Kapoor in ‘Saawariya’ - one of Bollywood’s most sought after directors, Bhansali has always presented his heroines as visual poems, unfailingly resplendent inspiring women with uncompromising individuality, remembered much after the film releases.

Eros International & Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Ram-Leela’ also starring Ranveer Singh in lead is scheduled to release November 15th 2013.
