Ilaiyaraja, Vishal and others get into the ground to help Chennai rain victims

The incessant heavy rains that has ravaged the Chennai city has to be considered as a blessing in disguise as it has explored the humanitarian face of this metropolitan city. Many people and organisations across the city have donated funds and have been distributing food and other basic amenities to people. A huge number of people have been volunteering to support the police and army staff in rescuing the people from inundated areas to places of safety. Many people have also been spreading the messages of help and support for rain affected people through various social media platforms.

The list of these kind-hearted people includes Kollywood celebrities too.

A couple of days back it was learnt that a large group of visually impaired and hearing impaired students were stuck in a school building near the Anna Flyover in Chennai without food and other facilities. The next day people started bringing bags of foods and other support materials. One among them was Isaignani Ilaiyaraja. The septuagenarian music composer amazed everyone by travelling to the place by hiring a boat and personally distributed food for these children. He also travelled to other places in boat and distributed food for rain-affected people.

Actor and Nadigar Sangam General Secretary Vishal who has been busy shooting for Marudhu` directed by Muthiah cancelled the shoot and started indulging in rain relief activities and rescue operations. Sangam`s Treasurer Karthi and Vice President Karunas also cancelled the shooting of their upcoming film Thozha` which was taking place in some other city and came back to Chennai for supporting the relief works. They have created a whatsapp group to collect food and other basic amenities donated by actors and actresses, Vishal and other actors have been travelling to many inundated places in Chennai to distribute them to people affected by rain.

Actress turned politician Khushbu visited a few places severely inundated by rain in Chennai and offered support to affected people.

Young actors Siddharth and Balaji have been coordinating rain relief efforts and people willing to donate and support the rain relief measures through Twitter and Facebook. They have been doing this since Wednesday.
