Highlights Of The Week

The week gone by had its share of controversies, success stories, special moments and routine ones. We bring you some of the highlights as reported by us. Read on...

Virat Kohli sparks row

Cricketer Virat Kohli thought he was hitting it out of the park when he told a cricket fan that he shouldn't live in India because he prefers English and Australian batsmen over Indians. But the controversy led to sharp reactions from across the board. Many called out Kohli's "parochial" attitude. Someone pointed out he himself regards an Australian tennis player as his most favourite. Some others, defending Kohli, said that sports is about parochial (not hostile) and polarising attitudes.

BJP gets shock in Karnataka

BJP lost the bypolls to Bellary and other Assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies in Karnataka. The Bellary loss was humiliating and signalled an almost permanent loss of face for the saffron party. Some analysts have said that BJP lost the Bellary district in this year's Assembly polls itself.

'2.0' Trailer creates history

The Trailer for '2.0' clocked 25 million views in 24 hours. The Hindi version had 10.6 million views, the Tamil one had 8 million, and the Telugu one clocked 3.6 million on YouTube. The Trailer received a mixed response, with many feeling that it has relaxed and sluggish shots.

Prakash Raj trolled over Sabarimala

Prakash Raj was alleged to have said that Lord Ayyappa is not a God. But the actor refuted the rumours and claimed that he never said it. He hit out at his pro-BJP critics. The 'Hello Guru Prema Kosame' actor declared that he doesn't belong to any religion although his mother is a Chrisitan and wife, a Hindu.

'Thugs Of Hindostan' gets horrible ratings

'Thugs Of Hindostan' released in 7000 screens across the world. Since it had 5000 screens in its kitty in India, it collected a nett box office figure of more than Rs. 50 Cr in India on the opening day. But on Day 2, the figure fell drastically. It received bad ratings and was trolled mercilessly by one and all.

'Sarkar' scores a big hit

'Sarkar' released on Tuesday and opened to encouraging reviews in Tamil. It has stormed into the Rs. 150 Cr club. The Vijay starrer will rake in Rs. 100 Cr in just the first weekend in Tamil Nadu, becoming the first such movie in the history of Kollywood. It's expected to gross Rs. 200 Cr in its lifetime run.

'Vinaya Vidheya Rama' Teaser wows fans

By registering 15.1 million digital views in 24 hours, 'Vinaya Vidheya Rama' teaser became the most-watched Telugu teaser in 24 hours. Ram Charan's punchline in the teaser, Boyapati Sreenu's elevation and the cinematography worked for all. But Devi Sri Prasad's background music has been trolled by sections of moviegoers.
