Indian-born New Zealand bowler Ajaz Patel takes all 10 wickets against India, creates history

Indian-origin New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel has created history after taking all 10 wickets in a Test innings against India during their second Test match in Mumbai.

Ajaz Patel is the third player in the history of cricket to take all ten wickets in a Test innings, following former Indian captain Anil Kumble, who had figures of 10-74 against Pakistan in Delhi in February 1999 and former England bowler Jim Laker, who took 10-53 against Australia in July 1956 at Manchester. The New Zealand spinner registered bowling figures of 47.5-12-119-10. Ajaz Patel, who is only playing his 11th Test match for New Zealand, was born in Mumbai, India, in 1988, and then emigrated to New Zealand with his family in 1996.

Congratulating Ajaz Patel for the incredible feat, Anil Kumble wrote, “Welcome to the club #AjazPatel #Perfect10 Well bowled! A special effort to achieve it on Day1 & 2 of a test match. #INDvzNZ.” The Indian team was bowled out for 325 runs in the first innings with Mayank Agarwal emerging as the leading run-scorer with 150 runs.
