Union Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre has conceded that situation at India’s border with China is indeed 'tense'.  He also didn’t rule out the possibility that the situation may escalate ‘further’.

China has been laying roads at Doklam, which resulted in tense scenario in recent times. Otherwise, there is hardly any trouble along India’s 4000 km long border with China. Despite India’s repeated warning, China continues to indulge in such acts.  There was a stand-off between Chinese and Indian security forces at Doklam last June and war clouds threatened to burst but the situation became normal soon after.

After peace talks were initiated, both the sides withdrew the accumulated security forces after 73 days.  It is in this backdrop that Bhamre’s comments of ‘tension’ prevailing along Doklam on the border assume significance.  The Minister added that the Indian security forces were on high alert and were ready to face any acts of aggression from the other side.

It may be recalled that Army chief General Bipin Rawat, who inspected the security scenario along India’s border with China in January this year, had expressed his apprehension that the Chinese forces might indulge in ‘aggressive behaviour’ at any time.
