For the past few days, thousands of people have queued up to seek an alleged coronavirus medicine at Krishnapatnam village in Nellore district. The herbal preparation has been administered for free by an Ayurveda practitioner named B Anandaiah.

The practitioner, whose 'medicine' has been described by the Telugu media as 'naatu vaidyam', puts drops into the eyes of the patients. A headmaster, who had been taking treatment for a week at a hospital to no avail, claimed that his breathing issues were over two minutes after the drops were used. Several locals have attested to the so-called efficacy of the unnamed 'drug'. Sections of media are using the word 'cure' to describe it.

It's said that the 'medicine' contains ingredients such as Tinospora codifolio, neem, pepper, among others.

The other day, Nellore Collector KVN Chakradhar Babu formed a team of experts, who came out with the conclusion that the 'drug' has no harmful effects.

Latest media reports say that the queues outside the practitioner's house have become serpentine, running into at least three kms. Even media vehicles are finding it tough to find access to the Ayurvedic specialist.

With even critically ill coronavirus patients being brought in ambulances, the district administration has launched an inquiry. TV9 has reported that 2,000 ambulances were spotted in the village today. As many as 35,000 people have flocked to the village. A general hospital has turned vacant after patients left the place to take the 'medicine' in earnest!
