It is well-known that the mega auction is all set to take place ahead of the Indian Premier League 2022. The road to the IPL 2022 kickstarted last month as the BCCI announced two new teams to be based out of Lucknow and Ahmedabad. Today, the existing teams will announce their retentions.

Each team can retain 4 players: 2 Indian players or 2 overseas players, 3 Indian players or 1 overseas player. A team can retain only two uncapped players. The two new franchises may be allowed to pick two to three players from outside the auction. The new teams can also pick up to two foreign players in their squad outside the auction if the big Indian names aren’t available.

Now, the tentative list of the retained players is revealed ahead of the mega auction by reliable sources. The reports read that CSK will retain MS Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali. Faf Du Plessis is likely to be picked by the Chennai franchise in the auction. Mumbai Indians are looking forward to retaining Rohit, Bumrah, Ishan Kishan and Pollard.

RCB will hold on to Virat Kohli, Mohammed Siraj and Glenn Maxwell. It is being reported that Yuzi Chahal and RCB couldn't sort out financials. KKR may retain Sunil Narine, Venkatesh Iyer, Varun Chakravarthy and Andre Russell. Delhi Capitals are likely to pick Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel and Anrich Nortje. Rajasthan will retain Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Punjab Kings are looking forward to retaining Mayank Aggarwal, Ravi Bishnoi and Arshdeep Singh. Sunrisers Hyderabad's only pick in retention is Kane Williamson. David Warner is ending his stint with SRH officially. On the other hand, KL Rahul and Rashid Khan are speculated to be in talks with the Lucknow team. There were rumours that those two can get suspended for striking a deal with new franchises while being in an existing team.

Notably, the team which retains four players will have to spend a whopping INR 42 crore out of their total purse of RNS 90 crore. INR 33 crore will be deducted for the team retaining three players while the team which decided to retain only two players will have to let go of INR 24 crore. The franchises will see INR 14 crore deducted if they retain just one player while a single uncapped player will set a team down by INR 4 crore. The teams won’t be able to make use of the Right to Match (RTM) card during the auction this time.

The IPL 2022 retention is all set to happen tonight (November 30, 2021). The announcement is scheduled to start at 9:30 PM IST. Star Sports Network holds the rights for broadcasting the tournament. Fans can tune in to Star Sports 1, Star Sports 1 HD, Star Sports 1 Hindi, Star Sports 1 Hindi HD to watch the IPL retention event live. Also, the ceremony will be streamed live on Disney+ Hotstar.
