Iruttu Araiyil Murattu Kuthu - A gentle massage without the happy ending
The 'Hara Hara Mahadevaki' team of Studio Green-Gautham Karthik and Santhosh P Jayakumar have joined together for this freewheeling true blue adult comedy. It remains to be seen if the team had pulled off another.
Veera (Gautham Karthik) is a playboy ditched by many girls due to his image and is desperate to marry. His family see a girl Thendral (Vaidbhavi) who suggests that they go on a one week trip somewhere and if all goes well they can get hitched. Wanting company Veera asks his buddy (YouTube fame ShaRaa) and his girlfriend (Yashika) to accompany them to Pattaya in Thailand. The foursome stay in a guest house which is haunted by a horny girl's ghost and how she tortures them forms the rest of the screenplay.
Gautham Karthik as the hero has surrendered completely to the genre and one can say his is a near flawless performance. Vaibhavi and Yashika clad mostly in skimpy costumes provide the oomph factor and so does Chandrika Ravi as the ghost. Mottai Rajendran and Bala Saravanan as the priest Jack and nun Rose provide some juvenile laughter. The ever dependable Karunakaran as a gay man once again proves that he can fit into any role with relative ease. Madhumitha and John Vijay appear in brief roles that are smile worthy. Sha Raa as the hero's friend is loud most of the time and lacks the comic timing that is much needed for the role.
What works in 'Iruttu Araiyil Murattu Kuthu' is using the Bigg Boss template to narrate the script which brings more laughter than the jokes in the movie. The director and his actors have remained true to the genre and have pushed the limits when it comes to the adult part of the film. An appreciable aspect is women in the film are not the target of any demeaning jokes or dialogues.
On the downside the big disappointment is that there is very less comedy with just a few laugh out loud moments here and there. Technical aspects are below the mark especially the ghost makeup which is neither funny nor scary. Yes even this kind of film does need some characterization to get the audience fully involved, which is not the case here.
Balamurali Babu's songs and background are lethargic while Ballu's cinematography and G.K. Prasanna's editing are so so. Blue Ghost Pictures on their mission to pioneer the adult comedy genre in Kollywood would surely retain their fan base. Santhosh P Jayakumar , the father of Tamil adult comedy has concentrated hard on going the maximum distance in the adult content but has not devoted as much to the comedy or moving the screenplay in an interesting manner.
Verdict : Go for it if you fancy the genre, some oomph and a few laughs
