Is WHO expert right in saying asymptomatic people don't spread Covid?

A section of experts at the World Health Organization (WHO) may be believing that Covid-19 can't be spread by asymptomatic people. An official of WHO has been quoted as saying that SARS-Cov-2 may not be infectious if someone is ‘asymptomatic’.
While this conclusion may be premature, many are saying that it would be some good news if it is indeed true. “It seems to be rare that an asymptomatic person actually transmits the disease to a secondary individual,” WHO epidemiologist Van Kerkhove has been quoted as saying.
However, the epidemiologist's words needn't be taken at face value. So far, there is no serious research, peer-reviewed one at that, to help us draw the conclusion. Andy Slavitt, an American expert, has differed with the assertion by the WHO official. As per him, Covid-19 continues to rise in the US despite symptomatic people quarantining themselves.
