Very few could have surmised a few years back, about the possibility of the battle between two films of the young star, Prithviraj for an Onam. Yes ,with the superstars fearing the breakdown in collections due to Ramzan month coinciding with Onam festivals, the stage is all set for Prithviraj films alone, to take a straight fight and emerge as the Onam winner.

The more surprising news is that Prithviraj's ‘Thalapavu’ and ‘Thirakatha’, both are now slated for release on the same day, the day of 'Thiru Onam' , that is on September 12 'Thalappavu' directed by actor Madhupaal, had been completed months ago and was waiting for the best time for a release. And off course no one in Mollywood could suggest any better time than the Onam holidays. Prithvi plays Naxal Joseph in this film, a real life take on a famous naxal who was shot dead in the forests in the 70's. The movie distributed by Lal creations has Lal, Manianpillai Raju, Rohini and Jagathy in important roles

But in ‘Thirakatha’, Prithvi is a budding film director, Akbar Ahamed, whose films are criticized for plagiarizing storylines. This is Prithvi’s coming back to his mentor Renjith, who is also in the lookout for a big hit for the last half a decade. The movie will have this year’s National Award winning actress Priyamani, playing the role of a glamorous actress. Produced by Varnachithra Subair and Ranjith's Capital Theatres, the movie is expected to be the winner in the final race, more due to its commercial elements.
