Tamil Nadu Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar has demanded the immediate arrest of Diwakaran, brother of Bangalore’s Parappana Agrahara Prison mate, for informing the people ‘wrongly’ about the date of demise of former Tamil Nadu chief-minister Jayalalithaa with the purpose of confusing them.

Jayalalithaa was declared ‘dead’ late on the night of 05th December, 2016 by Apollo Hospitals, Chennai where she had remained hospitalized for 75 days from 22nd September till she breathed her last. Medical bulletins issued by the Hospital from time to time gave plenty of hopes to her supporters, party cadres and to the people that she would come out unscathed from the Hospital after getting her illness cured.

Diwakaran dropped a bombshell on Wednesday at Mannargudi while taking part in the 101st birthday celebrations of AIADMK’s founder-president MGR by stating that Jayalalithaa had, in fact, passed 24 hours earlier i.e. at 05:15 p.m. on 04th December itself and added that the Hospital declared her demise only after a full day so as to ‘protect’ its establishments at Chennai and elsewhere from irate AIADMK cadres.

Commenting on Diwakaran’s claims, Jayakumar said that it was entirely wrong on the part of Diwakaran to reveal these things – which were far from truth – rather than saying these to the Justice Arumuga Swamy Commission of Inquiry which is probing the mysterious circumstances preceding Jayalalithaa’s demise. “He should be arrested immediately for creating panic and confusion,” Jayakumar remarked.
