The June 23rd release 'Vanamagan' is yet another different effort by hero Jayam Ravi and director Vijay. In the film Ravi plays a member of an isolated tribe who finds his way into the outside world of which he knows nothing about.

So far in Tamil cinema lives of scheduled tribes have been portrayed like in the recent example, 'Kadamban'. These are people who live in the forests and mountains but can communicate in the local language and are also connected to the outside world. But in the case of isolated tribes, they are completely cut off from civilization and most dont even know of its existence. They communicate through sounds and not language.

Director Vijay has researched isolated tribes in the Andamans where they number 440 and are shown to tourists just like how the wildlife is shown from the jeeps. In 'Vanamagan' Jayam Ravi as Vaasi has remained true to his character and has spoken only TWELVE words in the entire movie. The love between Ravi and Sayeeshaa characters is completely different from what has been seen in Tamil cinema as they do not communicate with words but depend on subtle feelings and emotions. Since Vaasi does not understand the world and its things the screenplay has plenty of space for laugh out loud comic scenes in which Ravi is said to have excelled. The action too is touted to be on par with international standards.

'Vanamagan' produced by AL Azhagappan has music score by Harris Jayaraj, cinematography by Thirru and editing by Antony. The cast includes Varun

Thambi Ramaiah,Sam Paul,Prakash Raj,Vela Ramamoorthy,Sanjay Bharathi and Ramya Subramanian.
