Jet Li is one of the most recognized Asian superstar around the globe who is celebrated for his exemplary martial arts skills and pyrotechnics in numerous films including the Hollywood biggies 'Lethal Weapon 4' , 'The Forbidden Kingdom' and 'The Expendables' franchise movies.

After the release of 'League of Gods' in 2016, Jet Li did not take up any movie assignments and was on a self-imposed sabbatical. A photograph of the superstar looking very frail and sickly taken in Tibet started doing the rounds on the internet in 2018 triggering rumors that he is in grave health condition.

At the promotional event of 'Mulan' the new movie that has started streaming on Disney Plus from September 4th, Jet Li has rubbished health rumours and has revealed the real reason he was missing in action for the past few years.

Jet Li shared that he hurt his leg when trying to save his daughter during the Tsunami in 2004 and after the near death experience he started the One Foundation, in 2007 through which he counsels victims of natural disasters and teach them to cope with the trauma mentally. "I changed my mind and decided not to focus only on the movies. I want to help pay back my society," says Li.

'Mulan' the live action remake of the animated movie of the same name released in 1998 is directed by Niki Caro and stars Yifei Liu in the title role, alongside Donnie Yen, Tzi Ma, Jason Scott Lee, Yoson An, Ron Yuan, Gong Li, and Jet Li. Budgeted at over 200 million this is the costliest movie ever made with a female director. The film has received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised the action sequences, visuals, and performances, but criticized the screenplay.
