The South Indian film industry mourns the untimely loss of renowned action director Jolly Bastian, who passed away on Tuesday, December 26, at the age of 57, succumbing to a heart attack. With a career spanning multiple languages, including Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi, and Punjabi, Jolly Bastian made an indelible mark by choreographing exceptional fight sequences for over 400 films.

Born on September 24, 1966, in Alappuzha and raised in Bangalore, Jolly Bastian initially pursued a career as a mechanic before venturing into the world of cinema as a stunt double for Kannada superstar V Ravichandran. His journey in the industry was characterized by a remarkable ascent, ultimately making him the most sought-after action director in Kannada cinema.

His legacy is punctuated by contributions to acclaimed films such as ‘Angamaly Diaries,’ ‘Kammattipaadam,’ ‘Bangalore Days,’ ‘Operation Java,’ ‘Masterpiece,’ ‘Highway,’ and ‘Johnnie Walker,’ among others. Jolly Bastian's expertise in crafting intense and captivating fight sequences left an indelible imprint on the cinematic landscape.

The sudden demise of Jolly Bastian has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, prompting heartfelt condolences from various quarters. FEFKA’s Director Union and Bhavana Studios expressed their deep sorrow, with the latter describing him as a "true gem" and an "irreplaceable talent." In a social media note, Bhavana Studios conveyed their condolences and strength to the bereaved family, saying, "In shock and sorrow over the sudden loss of Jolly Bastian, our favorite action director. A true gem and an irreplaceable talent graced Thankam and Premalu. Strength to his family in this difficult time. Rest in peace, Master."

Actor-producer Vijay Babu, reminiscing about their collaborations, shared, "I will cherish the memories from the Angamaly Diaries, Overtake, and many other works we did together."
