Lyricist Kabilan Announces Poetry Award in Memory of Daughter Thoorigai

Lyricist Kabilan has announced a poetry award in memory of his daughter, Thoorigai. Kapilan has penned numerous songs, including "Un Samayalarayil..." from the film "Dhil," "Aadungada Ennai Suthi" from "Pokkiri," "Kathaazhai Kannaala Kuthaadha" from "Anjaathe," and "Ratchasa Maamane" from "Ponniyin Selvan 1." He has now established a foundation in his daughter's name and introduced this poetry award.
Regarding this initiative, Kabilan stated, "This award is being introduced to honor my daughter Thoorigai's literary knowledge. We will be awarding Rs. 25,000 each to one male and one female poet, totaling Rs. 50,000 in cash prizes along with the award. The poems should be modern and contribute to social and cultural change. Additionally, the books must be first editions published in 2024. Complete collected works and translated poetry will not be accepted."
Participants must submit three copies of their work to the address below before the deadline of March 20, 2025. The award ceremony will take place in Chennai on May 22, 2025. The jury's decision will be final.
