Amid the controversy surrounding the release of Kamal Haasan’s film Thuglife in Karnataka, the veteran actor has addressed the issue in a letter to the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce.

In the letter, Haasan clarified that his earlier remarks were misunderstood and were never meant to offend the Kannada language or its speakers.

“My comments were misconstrued. I never intended to demean the Kannada language,” he wrote. “The discussion took place in the spirit of unity, as I consider us all part of one family.”

Referring to his comments about actor Shivrajkumar, Haasan expressed regret that his words were misinterpreted. “What I said about Shivrajkumar came from a place of affection. I am truly saddened that it caused discomfort or created any trouble for him.”

Haasan reaffirmed his respect for Kannada culture: “The Kannada language has a rich and proud heritage. I have never aimed to insult or diminish it in any way.”

He also acknowledged the unwavering support he has received from Kannada audiences over the years. “I have always been grateful for the love shown to me by the people of Karnataka, and I respect their deep connection to their mother tongue. I would never wish to disturb public harmony.”

With the release of this letter, it remains to be seen whether the restrictions placed on Thuglife’s release in Karnataka will now be reconsidered.
