Actor turned politician Kamal Hassan who launched 'Makkal Needhi Maiam' over a year ago, has been working tirelessly for the progress of the party. He recently announced that Maiam would contest all the 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu and one in neighboring Puducherry. 

The Election Commission has granted the official symbol of the party - A Battery Torch. Expressing his happiness on the same, the Vishwaroopam actor took to his Twitter to make the announcement, adding that Maiam will serve as a “torch-Bearer” for a new era in politics across Tamil Nadu and India.

“MNM thanks the Election commission for granting us the "Battery Torch" symbol for the forthcoming elections.  So appropriate. @maiamofficial will endeavour to be the “Torch-Bearer” for a new era in TN and  Indian politics,” Kamal Hassan's Twitter post read.

Popular actress and comedian Kovai Sarala joined the party on the occasion of International Women's Day. Actress Sripriya has been one of the prominent members of the party since its launch.
