Actor Kamal Haasan recently expressed his deep appreciation for Malayalam cinema, stating that it has taught him a lot throughout his career. In a heartfelt interview with The Hollywood Reporter YouTube channel, Kamal spoke about his early days in cinema, his constant desire to learn, and the important lessons he gained from Malayalam films.
He reflected on a time when he felt creatively stuck and sought out new paths. Wanting to explore and grow as an artist, he turned to Malayalam cinema, which he says completely changed his perspective on filmmaking and acting. Kamal regards that phase as a crucial training period in his career.
He credited both director K. Balachander and the Malayalam film industry for shaping his understanding of cinema. According to Kamal, just as people today search online for knowledge, he chose to learn by working with industry pioneers. He mentioned that collaborating with Malayalam actors especially influenced his approach, as he found their acting styles comparable to legends like Dilip Kumar.
Kamal Haasan’s upcoming multilingual film 'Thug Life', directed by Mani Ratnam and featuring music by A.R. Rahman, is set to release in theatres on June 5. The film also stars Silambarasan (Simbu), Trisha, Ashok Selvan, and Abhirami, raising high expectations among fans.
The promotional activities for the film are currently in full swing, with the cast and crew actively participating in interviews and campaigns ahead of the big release.
