Today is a dark day in the history of the state, as this was the same day before two years, when protests which took place in Thoothukudi against the opening of Sterlite copper plant turned fateful, resulting in violence against people.

Violent events, burning of properties happened, and police forces turned violent, and a shootout ensued killing many innocent protestors. On eve of the second anniversary of the horrible incident, Makkal Needhi maiam president Kamal Haasan has posted a strong tweet against the government.

Kamal tweeted "This is the day the government failed to listen to the voices of people and brutally shot them dead, treating them like prisoners of war in their own land. It's been two years since this government mortgaged it's honour to help the revenues of capitalists and took away the breaths of those who wanted pure air to breath".
