For the past few days the Tamil people living in Karnataka, especially the capital city Bangalore have been living under the shadow of fear as the protests of Kannada outfits against the sharing of Cauvery river water with Tamil Nadu has turned violent.

Apart from huge damage to properties and vehicles owned by Tamils, incidents of attack on Tamilians who attempted to cross the Karnataka border have shocked everyone who believe in humanity. There were also a few retaliatory attacks on properties of Kannadigas in Tamil Nadu.

Many film industry celebrities including actors Prakash Raj, Vijay Sethupathi and RJ Balaji have expressed grief over the attack on innocents and appealed for peace.

Now Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan who has been recovering from a leg surgery has expressed dismay over the conflict in his social media page. It is as usual a level headed message conveyed in a subtle language.

In his Tweet in Tamil language, he subtly says that Cauvery river is much older than all the languages we speak today and it will flow even after our times. In an apparent reference to the violence unleashed by Kannada as well as Tamil fringe outfits in the name of ethnic sentiments, he warns that we will have to feel embarrassed for such activities in the mirror of history.

The Ulaganayagan has always raised above ethnic sentiments and has urged everyone to uphold the feeling of Indianness. One should not forget his love for his mother tongue Tamil as well as other Indian languages.
