Kapkapiii Movie Review: A Spooky Laugh Riot That Hits All the Right Notes

Duration: 138 mins
Director: Sangeeth Sivan
Writers: Kumar Priyadarshi & Saurabh Anand
Cast: Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Siddhi Idnani, Jay Thakkar, Sonia Rathee, Abhishek Kumar, Varun Pandey, Dherendra Tiwari, Manmeet Kaur

The Hindi remake of the Malayalam hit Romancham, Kapkapiii is a deliciously chaotic blend of horror and comedy that never takes itself too seriously—and that’s exactly why it works. Director Sangeeth Sivan’s final outing is a fitting farewell: madcap, fast-paced, and outrageously funny.

The premise is simple and hilarious: six jobless, aimless friends, bored out of their wits, decide to spice things up by summoning a ghost using a homemade Ouija board fashioned from a carrom board. What begins as a joke soon spirals into madness when the fictional ghost “Anamika” turns out to be terrifyingly real. What follows is a barrage of screams, secrets, and slapstick that transforms their sleepy rental home into a full-on haunted comedy circus.

Tusshar Kapoor enters the frame as Kabir, an uninvited guest who walks straight into a supernatural storm. Every time he’s on screen, the chaos only multiplies—his comic timing is effortless, and his presence adds a burst of energy. Shreyas Talpade as the wannabe gang leader Manu delivers a pitch-perfect performance, with razor-sharp timing and exaggerated bravado. The camaraderie and chemistry between Tusshar and Shreyas is infectious, fueling the film's funniest moments.

Siddhi Idnani and Sonia Rathee, playing the mysterious girls upstairs, aren’t just ornamental additions—they bring their own quirks and contribute to the madness with flair. The supporting cast, especially Jay Thakkar and Abhishek Kumar, add layers of humor, while characters like Nanku the tea-seller-philosopher and Nirup the lazy engineer keep the gags grounded in relatability.

What makes Kapkapiii click is its self-aware writing and high-energy execution. The dialogues by Kumar Priyadarshi and Saurabh Anand are genuinely laugh-out-loud funny—sharp, contemporary, and endlessly quotable. You’ll be tempted to rewind a few lines just to laugh again.

Visually, the film leans into its kitschy horror aesthetic without ever going overboard. There’s no melodrama or recycled ghost clichés—just spooky setups leading to hilarious consequences. It doesn’t aim to frighten deeply, but delivers a perfect dose of harmless thrills mixed with unfiltered fun.

In a time when horror-comedies are being churned out by the dozen, Kapkapiii manages to stand out with its originality and irreverence. It’s not here to be profound or poetic—it’s here to entertain, and it does so with gusto.

Verdict: Kapkapiii is the ultimate horror-comedy escape: breezy, bonkers, and endlessly enjoyable. If you’re looking for a film that’ll make you laugh till your sides hurt while throwing in just the right amount of spook, gather your gang and press play. Sangeeth Sivan signs off with a winner.
