Karnataka CM didnt grant appointment to meet EPS, reveals OPS

Tamil Nadu deputy chief-minister O. Panneerselvam has revealed that Karnataka chief-minister Siddaramaiah didn’t bother to respond positively to the request of his Tamil Nadu counterpart for an appointment to meet him on the Cauvery water row.

Each year, Karnataka is supposed to release 192 TMC water from Cauvery, which originates in Kodagu Hills in the State. However, it has only given 111 TMC of water so far this year, thus endangering crops in thousands of hectares in the Delta Districts in Tamil Nadu which are badly in need of water for irrigation purposes.

Edapadi K. Palaniswami penned a formal letter to Siddaramaiah last week seeking an appointment to meet the later personally at Bangalore to press home the need for release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu’s farmers whose livelihood depend on the crops they are growing. Letter to Siddaramaiah’s principal secretary and telephonic intimation in this regard haven’t yet been responded to so far by Karnataka.

More than a week has gone by even as sections of the press reported that Tamil Nadu was contemplating legal action against Karnataka for not releasing the stipulated quota of Cauvery water. In the meantime, deputy chief-minister OPS revealed to newsmen yesterday that the Karnataka side hadn’t yet responded positively to the chief-minister’s request for an appointment to meet his Karnataka counterpart.
