Karnataka to have separate flag?

A nine-member committee will deliberate on a separate flag for the state of Karnataka, as politicians and activists have been demanding it.

Patil Puttappa, president of Karnataka Vidyavardhaka Sangha, Dharward, and Bheemappa Gundappa Gadada, a social worker, took this issue to the government and have requested that the flag have legal status.

Headed by the Principal Secretary of the Department of Kannada and Culture, the committee will comprise several eminent experts.

While the Indian Constitution does not prohibit a state from having its own flag, the national flag code requires that the tricolor flag note be dishonoured on any account. Hence, the national flag must be hoisted higher than other flags.
