Karthi starrer 'Kaithi' is an action thriller film written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The film became one of the biggest blockbusters of the year 2019. It opened to positive reviews for exclusion of songs and other factors present in mainstream Tamil cinema.

Kaithi also starred Narain, Arjun Das, Harish Uthaman, George Maryan and Dheena in pivotal roles. The final scenes of the movie were set to pave way for a sequel. Karthi, Lokesh Kanagaraj and the producer SR Prabhu confirmed Kaithi 2 during the film's success meet.

The latest buzz is that director Lokesh Kanagaraj, who is currently helming Kamal Haasan's upcoming film 'Vikram', has completed the script work for 'Kaithi 2'. He will start the sequel once he finishes the works of the multistarrer 'Vikram'. The shooting is likely to begin in mid-2022.

Karthi and Narain are expected to reprise their roles in Kaithi 2 which is set to be bankrolled by SR Prabhu under the banner Dream Warrior Pictures. Also, it is being reported that Lokesh Kanagaraj will direct Thalapathy Vijay once again after the completion of the sequel.
