Director Karthik Subbaraj recently shared the reason why he couldn’t collaborate with actor Vijay on a film. When Vijay was listening to various story ideas for his next project, many directors approached him, including Karthik Subbaraj, whose name was often mentioned in discussions. However, the expected collaboration between the two never materialized.
In a recent interview promoting his film “Retro,” Karthik revealed the backstory. He said, “I’ve met Vijay sir several times to narrate stories. After watching ‘Jigarthanda,’ he appreciated my work and said it was well done. Since then, I’ve shared many stories with him.” He continued, “I’m not very skilled at narrating stories properly. I’ve even narrated several scripts to Rajinikanth sir, and with him, I’m able to communicate better. But somehow, the stories I shared with Vijay sir didn’t resonate with him.”
He added, “The last time I met him, Vijay sir jokingly said, ‘Why can’t we find the right story for ourselves?’ I even narrated a story titled ‘Vijay 69,’ but he declined it. Before I could pitch a new story, he had already chosen director H. Vinoth for his next film.”
Karthik Subbaraj’s openness about this missed opportunity highlights how even talented filmmakers can face challenges in aligning creative visions with top stars.
