Suriya's upcoming film Retro is set to hit the big screen on May 1. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, the movie blends romance and action, with Pooja Hegde playing the female lead. The film is scheduled for a simultaneous release in several major Indian languages.
In a recent interview, director Karthik Subbaraj shared that the original script for Retro was written with Superstar Rajinikanth in mind. He clarified, “There are rumors that I wrote the story for Thalapathy Vijay, but actually, I created it with Thalaivar (Rajinikanth) in mind. It had more action elements at first to match his style. But once I narrated the story to Suriya, it transformed into more of a romantic action film.” He also mentioned that even Suriya asked him if the script was initially intended for Rajinikanth.
Retro is produced under the banners of 2D Entertainment and Stone Bench Creations. The film features a strong supporting cast including Jayaram, Joju George, Karunakaran, Nassar, and Prakash Raj. Music for the film is composed by Santhosh Narayanan, and actress Shriya Saran will appear in a special dance number.
