Vijay Setthupathi is shooting for his current project 'Maamanithan' directed by Seenuramaswamy and costarring Gayathri, Guru Somasundram and others. The shooting was held in Alappuzha in Kerala when a very old woman approached and informed him that she is in poverty and does not have money to buy medicines. The Makkal Selvan immediately took out his purse and whatever money he had he handed it over to her.

However, minutes after getting money from Vijay Sethupathi the woman fainted and fell to the ground and onlookers rushed her to the Taluk hospital in Changanacherry but passed away tragically. It later came to light that the lady was, in fact, a veteran actress named Kavalam Achamma and has starred in a few Malayalam films including Jayaram's 'Njan Salperu Ramankutty'.
