The Kerala film industry has decided to go on strike from June 1, demanding a reduction in actors' salaries. This decision was made during a joint meeting of industry representatives.
A few days ago, Kerala Producers' Association President and actress Keerthy Suresh’s father, Suresh Kumar, stated, “Despite repeated demands for tax reduction, no action has been taken by the government. The salaries of actors, directors, and technicians keep increasing, while theatre collections do not even reach 10% of their pay. To address this, we will go on strike from June 1.”
However, this decision has faced significant opposition in the Malayalam film industry. Anthony Perumbavoor, who produces big-budget films starring Mohanlal, expressed concern, saying, “This strike will affect the livelihoods of thousands of workers. Striking is not the right solution. Also, who gave Suresh Kumar the authority to make this decision on behalf of the producers' association?”
Supporting this viewpoint, several people, including actor Vinayakan, also opposed the strike.
In response, Suresh Kumar clarified, “The strike decision was not taken by me alone but was decided in a joint meeting of industry bodies. I have been in this industry for 46 years. When Anthony Perumbavoor started watching movies, I was already producing them. He doesn’t attend any association meetings, so how would he know what’s happening?”
