Tamil Nadu has been ruled by five Chief Ministers who have their roots in film industry. The list includes C.N.Annadurai who has written script for many successful films like 'Or Iravu', M.G.Ramachandran who is still the most popular star in the history of Tamil cinema, M.Karunanidhi, the dialogue writer of blockbusters films like 'Parasakthi', 'Mandhiri Kumari,' and 'Manohara' to name a few, V,N.Janaki, the wife of MGR who served a brief stint as the CM of Tamil Nadu was formerly an actress and the current Chief Minister J.Jayalalitha who was one of the most successful and popular heroines of the 1960s and 70s.

As far as the neighbourhood Kerala is concerned the connection between the tinsel town and politics has been quite low. Hardly any film star who entered politics have made it to the top post in political parties or in the Government.

For the first time the senior most politician of the state is going to make his entry in films. Former Chief Minister V.S.Achuthanandan of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), will be acting in the Malayalam film 'Campus Dairy'. In this film the 93 year old politician will be acting as the person who supports the students' struggle against a multi-national drinking water supplier.

'Campus Dairy' is being directed by debutant Jeevan Das and stars Sudev and Gauthami in lead roles. Vinish Palayad has written the script for this film. The film can be expected to hit the screens in October 2016.
