The decision by the court came after Justice K Surendra Mohan of Kerala State Legal Services Authority sent a letter to the Chief Justice demanding action in the incident.

The letter stated that the lynching was a ‘blot in our society’ and such an incident has taken place in a state which boasts of 100 percent literacy. He also called upon the need for better implementation of the law to prevent crimes against tribal people and also to make sure that the welfare measures reach them sans issues.
