A woman from Kerala who underwent a sex reassignment surgery has filed a complaint against her lover who was allegedly responsible for the former’s surgery after she promised to marry her once she turned into a man.

Deepu R Darshan (23), previously known as Archana Raj, is a resident of Kozhikode. He worked in the sales division of a private electronics firm in Kerala. Her colleague and former girlfriend, Sapna, worked in a different branch of the same firm. The duo got acquainted over a period of one month, following which they gradually started falling in love. Sapna had apparently insisted that Archana go through a sex reassignment surgery so that she could become her legitimate husband post their marriage. Taking her advice into consideration, Archana went through the surgery and changed her name to Deepu, which was suggested by Sapna. However, following the surgical procedure, Sapna refused to return Deepu’s phone calls or messages, which immensely disturbed him.

The emotionally distraught Deepu filed a report against Sapna at the Peruvannamuzhi police station, backing her claims with Whatsapp chats and call records. “Even two days before the surgery, I had a long phone conversation with her. We spoke from 11 pm to about 4 am in the morning. We had made plans to elope to Tiruppur after the surgery as she did not want to live in Kerala. Our families were not aware of our relationship. It was her love for me that influenced me to do the surgery. I trusted her more than I believed in myself,” said Deepu, who also added that he was on the verge of committing suicide following the betrayal. The police haven’t registered a case on the issue and have asked the families to resolve the matter privately. Meanwhile, Sapna, who was brought in for inquiry, claimed that she wasn’t accountable for the surgery, and added that Deepu was mentally unstable.

It has been reported that Deepu spent nearly 2 lakhs on his surgery on Sapna’s insistence. Apparently, he is now resolved to file a case of cheating against Sapna.
