How do you define a good sequel? Continuity of the character’s reflection in the second? Action, stunts, X factors?, The excitement? , well you can't really bring back the exact excitement because the first time it was fresh, something unexperienced and new; which is precisely why fun was kept through the movie. But do the sequels essentially bring the same feel, not necessarily and Kingsman 2 is one such example. While the action, stunts, style quotient and that classy feel is there, it’s just an extended repetition of the first part’s adventure and while it is still enjoyable, fails to give that kick.
There is no spoiler alert in bringing back Colin Firth’s character back as the trailer itself kept screaming the man’s return. His mentor character in the first part was done so neatly that it became a necessity for the director to bring it back and why not. While the Golden circle is certainly clumsy in terms of its narration and overdose of characters, it's all not that boring when you have a quirky director at its helm and talented actors like Channing Tatum, Halle Berry who know their way when it comes to churning comedy. In the first film is about how the lad called Eggsy moves up the ladder from rags to riches in super style, the second shows him more comfortable in his role as a spy as he becomes England's most wanted detective solving national threats with ease. Even as he settles on his personal front with girlfriend Princess Tilde. Director Vaughn gets the ball rolling by introducing Eggsy’s old friend, mentor and the spine of Kingsman 2 - Harry into the movie within few minutes.
As the headquarters of Kingsman is destroyed, the team packs up and head to the Kingsman equivalent in the US – Statesmen which is headed by Channing Tatum as Tequila, Halle Berry as Ginger, Pedro Pascal’s Whiskey and their almighty 'Champ', Jeff Bridges. Eggsy and Merlin meet the Americans all the way in Kentucky, while they go on an avenging session, hot on the heels of a secret and powerful drug union, headed by Poppy (Julianne Moore, who does little but stand behind large desks and feed her enemies to death). Julianne Moore’s Poppy Adams leads the wicked crime network who call themselves The Golden Circle. She is not that sarcastic villain like Samuel Jackson who keeps blah blahing around all along, but more of a smirk loving tacky devil who would like to see the world burn. She is aided by Elton John’s funny little cameo that sends the house down with laughter, quite enjoyable indeed.
So the plot and stage is set for the men from States and UK to join hands against some of the elite villainy forces to bring down crime and make the world a better place, can they? It's anybody’s guess on what would happen as the confrontation comes in the middle of stylish fights, classy intimidating conversations and finally a fitting climax. Kingsman also releases in regional languages, the conversations in Tamil with Channing Tatum is hilarious, have a look at the trailers and you will realize it is a fun ride indeed.
Matthew Vaughn's Kingsman Golden Circle is certainly not the good as the previous one, but will certainly win your entertainment quotient with some good guaranteed fun on its part.
