The lives of Transgenders are not as bad as pathetic as it was before. Many persons from the third gender have made achievements and established their identity in various fields. But still there is a long way to go to remove the general notion that they are mere sex objects and that they willfully involve in sex trade for luxury.

'Sadhayai Meeri' the music video directed by Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi and composed by Santhosh Narayanan wants us to see them beyond their flesh. The well crafted song with soulful music and meaningful lyrics, the video conveys this message in the most pleasing yet impactful manner.

Narrated through a story of a boy turning as woman due to his natural instincts, disowned by parents, lead to flesh trade by anti-social elements and finally losing her life due to the social unacceptablity, 'Sadhayai Meeri' breaks a lots of stereotypes about the transsexual persons.

Most significant contribution of this music video would be shedding light on the very rarely or even never documented lives of transmen also. It is true that transmen are much more in a bad state than that of transwomen and the public awareness about them is also so low.

"அவர்கள் பாலை அவர்கள் சொல்ல

சர்க்கரை மட்டும் கலப்போம்

நாம் மனிதரே"

The Tamil word 'Paal' has two meanings- Milk and Gender. See the fantastic word play used by the lyricist Vivek with these lines to convey the message that the society should not decide the gender of an individual.

Hats off to the team behind 'Sadhayai Meeri' for such a commendable effort to make us empathise the pains of sexual minorities and treat them as our equals. .
