Thursday, October 12, 2017 • Telugu Comments

It's known that Kollywood has been shut down with no releases since Oct 6th over the issue of Local Body Entertainment Tax of 10 percent over and above the Goods and Services Tax.

The bad news for Tamil cinema industry is that the Tamil Nadu Government is not ready to budge on the demand of a rollback of the LBET. TN government firm on Local Body Entertainment Tax. TN govt has implemented 7th pay commission recommendations, will hike salary bills.  But govt tax revenue down, that’s why they increased liquor prices. Now they feel by taxing cinema, their revenue will go up marginally. Looks like some kind of compromise will be worked out, with govt insisting on LBET. Single screens ticket rates will be increased," senior commentator and host of IndiaGlitz's popular Red Carpet show, says.

It has to be seen how the Tamil Film Producers' Council, headed by Vishal, will respond to the stance.  'Mersal' is the biggest film waiting to hit the screens on Oct 18th once the ongoing strike is called off.
