Cops found the bodies of a young couple floating in the Shivanasamudra Falls in Mandya District of Karnataka. On further investigation, it was found that they were Swathi and Nandesh a newly married couple from Krishnagiri and at first it was thought that it was a suicide but later confirmed as honor killing by the upper caste girl's family.

Nandesh (25) belonging to the Dalit community while working in Krishnagiri at a hardware store had met Swathi (20) belonging to the dominant Vanniyar community. The boy had even asked his father to formally ask for the hand of the girl but was insulted by them. Swathi was allegedly under house arrest but after a few months at the pretext of getting her hall ticket from college had eloped with Nandesh and the couple live happily for a few months.

Last week Nandesh and Swathi had attended one of Kamal Haasan's political meetings in Hosur when they were spotted by the girl's uncle Ashwath who along with his brothers Venkatraju and Venkatesh had tricked the couple stating that they should visit a Hanuman temple. Instead, the couple were taken to the Shivanasamudra falls in Karnataka and after tying Nandesh with a rope from behind had brutally beaten him up for spoiling the family honor and then pushed into the water. Similar treatment was given to Swathi too and both drowned to death. Police have arrested the accused and filed an FIR against them.
