The latest film, Kuberaa, directed by Sekhar Kammula, stars Dhanush and Nagarjuna in the lead roles. Amid high expectations, the film has hit theaters today. Let’s dive into the review to see how the film has turned out.
Story:
Deepak (Nagarjuna) is an honest CBI officer. However, because of his integrity, he ends up in jail due to false cases filed by a few individuals. Justice never comes to Deepak, despite his belief in the system. On the other hand, Neeraj Mithra (Jim Sarbh) is a major industrialist who discovers oil reserves that could serve the country for 15 years. He secretly makes a deal with a minister to exploit this oil for personal gain. He believes only Deepak can carry out this plan and get him released from jail. As the plan unfolds, they decide to transfer ?1 lakh crore (?1 trillion) through four benami accounts. One of the benamis is Deva (Dhanush), a beggar. Does Deepak’s plan succeed? What is Deva’s actual role in all this? What past connection does he share with Deepak? These questions form the rest of the story.
Analysis:
Many films have tackled the rich vs. poor concept, but Kuberaa presents it with a fresh treatment. A beggar who believes he needs nothing in life and an honest man betrayed by the system, both cross paths with a businessman who breathes money. Sekhar Kammula skillfully weaves drama between these characters, infusing his signature screenplay style to turn Kuberaa into a special film.
The story of a ?1 lakh crore scam, and the emotional drama between the rich and poor, is handled with depth. Sekhar Kammula’s design of the characters and their backstories is spot on. Though Kuberaa is an emotional entertainer that clicks in most parts, some scenes do not match the film’s overall tone and feel underwhelming. The film also struggles to maintain the same level of intensity throughout. The track between Nagarjuna and the villains could have been handled better. While Sekhar Kammula delivers strongly in the core theme and key sequences, he appears a bit slow and uneven in a few portions.
When it comes to performances, Nagarjuna fits perfectly into his role. As a CBI officer who lives by his principles but ends up supporting the wrong side, Nagarjuna shines. This will go down as a memorable character in his career, especially because of the emotional ending. Dhanush, as the beggar, surprises with a powerful performance. It’s impossible to imagine anyone else as Deva. His portrayal is so compelling. Rashmika Mandanna, as the female lead, once again delivers a wonderful performance, and her screen presence is impressive. Jim Sarbh is perfectly cast as the villain. Dalip Tahil, Colonel Ravi Sharma, Sunayana, and the rest of the cast also do justice to their roles. .
Talking about the technical departments, cinematographer Niketh Bommireddy’s work is outstanding. He captures key moments and action scenes in sync with the narrative. Editor Karthika Srinivas has done a fine job. Music by Devi Sri Prasad is impressive; the songs are well-composed and picturized beautifully, and the background score elevates the film. Sekhar Kammula, both as writer and director, does complete justice to the story.
Verdict:
As a social and emotional drama, Kuberaa delivers both a strong social message and feel-good emotions. Dhanush and Nagarjuna impress with powerful performances, while Sekhar Kammula captivates with his direction. The strong technical output stands out and adds weight to the entire film. A few routine scenes act as minor drawbacks, but Dhanush’s performance and Nagarjuna’s screen presence elevate the film.
