Wit, sarcasm and situational humour work hand in hand in this clean entertainer, to give 'Kunjiramayanam' a definite comic flavour that is impressive. What is more noticeable is that this aspect does not flag anywhere in the narrative. There is a sharpness in the dialogues, with repartee and counters in full flow. The place is 'Desam' and the time somewhere in the present-past. This non-fixity of place and time gives 'Kunjiramayanam' ample scope to weave nostalgia, and other elements in the narrative. There are a lot many characters dotting the story. All of them together gives the movie a witty feel.

'Kunjiramayanam' is a simple tale, and perhaps some may find it too simplistic, especially the conflict in it that leads to the climax. But the makers had not promised something on a grand scale. The movie does deliver what it offered. Vineeth Sreenivasan has played his role as Kunjiraman with panache. His ambitions, the wish to get ahead of his uncle, to marry a better girl than his cousin, the superstitious beliefs that grow in the conflicts, all have been brought out beautifully. Dhyan as a simpleton also impresses. Aju, Deepak, Srinda, Sneha and others too are spot on.

What makes Basil Joseph's debut memorable are the dialogues by Deepu Pradeep. 'Kunjiramayanam' has a familiar feel, though not cliched. This is one movie which can provide unlimited laughs this Onam.
