Toll in Kurangani forest fire rises to 20

The recent forest fire breakout in Theni’s Kurangani region claimed the lives of 9 persons on the spot out of the 36 who went trekking. Those who were severely injured were being treated in Madurai, alas with the death count increasing to 18 until yesterday.

Saddeningly, today two more people Sai Vasumathi haling from Tanjore and Nivya Prakruthi of Chennai passed away raising the total death count to 20. In addition to this, it is said that several of the remaining people undergoing treatment are in critical condition. It is also notable that the commission set up by the Tamil Nadu government will begin their investigation into the forest fire breakout starting today.
