'Ladies v/s Ricky Behl' to open better than 'Band Baaja Baaraat'

When the promotion of 'Ladies v/s Ricky Behl' kick-started, it seemed like the 'Band Baaja Baaraat' team had yet another winner in hand. Surprisingly though the last few weeks have mainly seen decent, not terrific, buzz around this Yash Raj film which brings back Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma on screen.

The film's promotional drive has been just apt but one expected that with 'Band Baaja Baaraat' behind them, the makers would be arriving with much more vigor and enthusiasm. However one has instead witnessed a promotional drive which hasn't quite gone over the roof. Moreover the film's music, though good to hear and reasonably catchy, hasn't quite turned out to be an instant hit with the audience.

Having said that, the film would still open better than 'Band Baaja Baaraat'. The point to be noted though is that on it's release 'Band Baaja Baaraat' was quite poor with mere 25% collections on it's opening day leading to merely 1 crore coming in. The film had progressed well over the weekend hence showing rapid progression due to good word of mouth. Compared to that 'Ladies v/s Ricky Behl' should be far better and make a comfortable start at around 50% mark. While the film will also cross the 23 crores total of 'Band Baaja Baraat' in the first 10 days, if not the first week, it would be the actual content that would decide it's eventual fate.

'Lanka' is the other film that releases alongside 'Ladies v/s Ricky Behl' and though the promos look interesting, surprisingly the overall promotional drive of the film has stayed on to be quite low key. The film has Vikram Bhatt's name attached to it but still there hasn't been much hype and buzz around this directorial debut of Maqbool Khan. One does expect a quality outing here though since Maqbool is said to be one of the young directors to watch out far. Also with Manoj Bajpayee in the cast, there is added credibility to the project. Still due to lack of awareness, anything over a 20% opening would be a bonus for 'Lanka'.

Alongside these two films arrives 'Ye Stupid Pyar' which is an out and out newcomer affair. To gain a widespread all-India release would be the first hurdle for this small film before it can expect any decent footfalls for itself.
