Argentine footballer Lionel Messi has been ruled out of Paris Saint-Germain's Ligue 1 game against Montpellier on Saturday as he continues to nurse a knee injury, according to a statement from the club. However, viewers are hopeful that Messi will be available for the Champions League clash against Pep Guardiola's Manchester City on Tuesday.

Messi missed PSG's 2-1 victory at Metz on Wednesday after suffering a knock on his left knee. Later, an MRI scan confirmed signs of a bone contusion. PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino has expressed his hopes of Messi's return for their midweek match against Manchester City. Pochettino stated, "Messi has started to run today. We are going to assess him and we hope he improves. On Sunday, we will be able to give a positive update. We hope everything goes well and he will be available again. Yes, we hope he can play (against City). We have to be cautious." Speaking about the selection for Saturday's match, the club manager mentioned, "We will see, there are different options and different systems. We will see who gives the team the right balance. We also have the flexibility to change as we go."

Meanwhile, PSG defender Sergio Ramos, who continues to train individually as he recovers from a calf injury, and midfielder Marco Verratti are also still on the sidelines. Pochettino added, "Mauro Icardi is a player who contributed a lot up until his injury. He then recovered and has made a big impact. Of course, he offers us an alternative in our attack."
