Lionel Messi to join PSG after leaving Barcelona; Massive salary revealed

Lionel Messi has been a free agent ever since his contract expiry with Barcelona at the end of June. The Argentine striker is now reportedly all set to join Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), the football club based in France.

Reports suggest that Messi will be taking home €769,000 a week at PSG and would probably rake in close to €40 million per annum after tax. Even excluding the signing-on fee and performance related bonuses, Messi could potentially earn €120 million overall. PSG will close in on a deal soon after Messi's father and agent, Jorge, talks to the Ligue 1 club directly over a contract that will be valid until June 2023 with an option to extend the agreement. A move to PSG would also reunite Messi with his former Barcelona teammate Neymar. Barcelona announced on Thursday that Lionel Messi will be leaving the La Liga club due to economic and structural obstacles.

Barcelona's official statement on Thursday read, FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi having reached an agreement and the clear intention of both parties to sign a new contract today, this cannot happen because of Spanish LaLiga regulations on player registration. As a result of this situation, Messi shall not be staying on at FC Barcelona.
