Indian is reeling under the alarming spread of COVID 19 on hand and on the other is facing the dangers of the locust's invasion that has affected crops in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. The swarms that have flown in from the Arabian peninsula pose the danger of causing a famine because a single swarm of about 80 lakh members can eat the food of 2500 people in a day.

K.V. Anand in his recent box office dud 'Kaappaan' starring Suriya had a sequence of the dangers of locust attacks. Following widespread appreciation from netizens regarding his near prophetic film he opened up about it recently.

According to Anand nine years back when he went to Madagascar for location hunting for his movie 'Maattraan' also starring Suriya he witnessed a locust swarm attack and it was so severe that his car had to be stopped for a few hours before the road could be visualized. He had then taken notes from locals regarding it and then incorporated it in the 'Kaappaan' script.

The commercial director has also given the suggestion that the best way to curb the locust destruction is by breeding sterile males and letting them mingle with females and there will be no reproduction. Since the life span is only 90 days the destruction could be much lesser.
