Though all the three constituencies of Chennai are widely noticed and are considered important, Central Chennai gains highest prominence among them. Comprising of Villivakkam,Egmore, Harbour, Chepauk, Thousand lights and Anna Nagar assembly seats, Central Chennai constituency can be called DMK's stronghold.

DMK has reigned supreme in this constituency in 1980 and 1984, and Congress had succeeded in 1989 and 1991, and again DMK had been constantly successful from 1996 till 2009. Murasoli Maran and Dhayanidhi Maran have been Central Chennai MPs thrice and twice respectively. Only in the elections held in 2014, ADMK was able to claim Central Chennai from DMK's hold.

Now for Lok Sabha elections 2019, Dhayanidhi Maran has been fielded as DMK candidate for Central Chennai. Being a two time MP, central minister, closeness to Kalaignar Karunanidhi's family, being well known to the people of the constituency, his economics educational qualification are some of his highly positive aspects, and besides, ADMK fielding its alliance partner PMK member as its candidate for the constituency is an added advantage for Maran.

However, Central Chennai is a constituency with majority Muslim votes, and it has been believed that there's a displeasure among Muslims that there are no Muslim candidates fielded by DMK this time. It was capitalizing on this displeasure that Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Haasan's Makkal Needhi Maiam has fielded Kameela Nasser. Since she had been very actively working in the party for people's welfare, the votes secured by Kameela might also end troubling Dhayanidhi Maran's winning prospects.

On the other end. TTV Dinakaran's Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam has announced their ally Social Democratic party of India SDPI candidate Tekalan Pagavi as the candidate for Central Chennai, and as he has been serving the Islamic society on his personal efforts as well as on behalf of the party, Tekalan is having a good reputation in the constituency which has a lion's share of Muslim votes. Besides, the money power of TTV Dinakaran might also help him at the final stages of election.

PMK's candidate Sam Paul is a Chennai based entrepreneur, and he can also give a tough fight to the other candidates. It is his popular salon which is most preferred by celebrities, and one of the branches of his salon was inaugurated by actor Nasser. He had been a part of few films and has been involved in various other businesses as well. He's the head of PMK's IT Wing as well and it is sure that he can give a good competition for the rest.

Though the current scenario shows DMK's Dhayanidhi Maran having an upper hand over the rest of the candidates, as the election date is nearing, DMK and its allies have to focus and work a lot on maintaining and developing the image and reputation, to convert them into votes, and in case they fail to do that, Kameela Nasser or Tekalan Pagavi can spring a surprise and snatch victory from their hands.
