In a tragic incident reported in Madhya Pradesh's Chhindwara district, an 18-year-old girl ended her life after she found that she had scored 6 marks in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance (NEET). However, her OMR sheet apparently revealed that she had, in fact, scored 590 marks.

The girl, identified as Vidhi Suryavanshi, allegedly took the extreme step after the original results of the exam left her depressed and heartbroken. When the girl's parents decided to recheck the score, the OMR sheet reportedly revealed that her actual score was 590. "Vidhi was found hanging to death in her house on Tuesday. The family reported the matter the next day. Primary probe suggests that less marks in the NEET triggered the suicide, but further investigations are underway," the police reportedly informed a news agency. The issue was brought to light by a Congress MP who had posted on Facebook, "How can such a serious lapse be allowed to happen in such national entrance test and it’s result? I appeal the government to immediately take cognizance of the matter and take stringent action against those found responsible for the grave lapse."

Tamil Nadu has been calling for a ban on the entrance test, which was made mandatory by the central government for all medical aspirants in the country. NEET, which follows the CBSE syllabus, puts the students of Tamil Nadu who follow the state board syllabus at a major disadvantage. Medical aspirant Anitha took her own life after she failed to clear the entrance exam in 2017, which initiated a major outcry in the state.
