Director Maniratnam had last directed the multistarrer Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, and is next directing the big budget historical entertainer Ponniyin Selvan, which is adapted from the classic novel of the same name written by Kalki Krishnamoorthy.

While it was initially said that Ponniyin Selvan which has music by AR Rahman will have the usual musical combo with lyricist Vairamuthu writing songs, and that there will be 12 songs, now the latest development is that after the outrage among public due to the Me too allegations on Vairamuthu, he is no more a part of the movie.

Though there has been no official announcement on Vairamuthu's exclusion from the biggie, this will be a huge move from the director which will lead to changes in the industry in approach towards persons accused in Me too. Ponniyin Selvan features a huge cast and has begun shooting in Thailand.
