Manoj Bajpayee was hoping for this film to win a National Award

Gifted actor Manoj Baypayee has given several iconic characters to Hindi cinema in recent years. There's a touch of naturality in his performances which gives the characters a realistic vibe. The actor recently won a National Award for his brilliant work in 'Bhonsle'. He also revealed that he was delighted to see 'Chhichhore' win under the Best Picture category as it has been a poetic justice towards the film and Sushant Singh Rajput but he secretly hoped 'Sonchiriya' to win something as well. Manoj and Sushant starred together in 'Sonchiriya' and their performances were nothing short of masterclass in acting.
Recalling the film, Manoj told a news outlet, Sonchiriya is a classic and one of the best films of my career, directed by one of the most accomplished directors I have worked with. It’s a film that I lose myself in. Usually, I don’t watch my own films because I start criticizing my own work, but Sonchiriya is the one film that I lose myself to. Every single frame and scene, Sushant Singh Rajput is great in the film along with Bhumi Pednekar. Bhumi has worked so well in the film. I had even told this to her that this film will always be above any work that other actresses from her generation have done.”
Although much loved by critics and cinephiles, the film wasn't very successful at box office.
